Home Science for Citizens Seminars Behind-the-Scenes Videos Student Interviews Alumni Interviews Science at Home Donate
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory is not able to host in-person outreach events. This year, we are challenging ourselves to host a “Virtual Science Semester” instead! During the fall 2020 semester, we will take viewers behind-the-scenes for a dynamic view of what research and education really look like at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory (CBL). The public will discover science in actions through new and reimagined digital programs:
Science for Citizens Seminars
These seminars invite the public to discover how CBL scientists are developing new approaches to solving the environmental challenges facing Maryland, our nation, and the world. The series will retain the program features audiences have come to love, but will be held as Zoom webinars.
A Look in the Lab: Behind-the-Scenes Video Series
Go behind-the-scenes to view aspects of lab research that cannot usually be shared with visitors. These 5-10 minute videos will take viewers into restricted lab areas, feature procedures that researchers can’t demonstrate in-person, and share place-based field research activities.
At Home Science
As part of its response to the COVID-19 global pandemic, UMCES CBL is proud to provide these online resources for use by families and educators. These activities and lesson plans will help bring science to life in your own home.
Next Generation: Student Interview Series
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a student at the Chesapeake Biological Lab? Hosted on Zoom, this series will introduce viewers to who our students are, what they are researching, and why their research is important. Each interview will last approximately 15 minutes.
After I Graduated: Young Alumni Interview Series
This series of 15-minute Zoom interviews will feature alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years. Interviews will explore the wide variety of career paths alumni have pursued and seek to discover the professional influence of the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory.
