Bio
I was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico but moved to Seattle, Washington as a child. There, I completed my undergraduate degree in oceanography at the University of Washington. We don’t really know enough about the ocean, and it is a difficult frontier to explore. My research consists of sampling seawater on research cruises to ocean Oxygen Minimum Zones, extracting DNA from the seawater, and sequencing it. Then through bioinformatics, I look for trends or patterns in the genes of cyanobacteria and their phage in the environment. I find it extremely fulfilling to contribute to human understanding of nature and the ocean. Upon completion of my degree, I hope to continue in an academic setting, adding to our understanding of the ocean and hopefully inspiring others to do the same along the way.
