The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Maryland’s leading research institution aimed at advancing scientific knowledge of the environment, recently welcomed Peggy Derrick, Vice President at EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc., PBC, to its Board of Visitors. =
“As a UMCES alumna, I am honored by the appointment,” said Derrick. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with such accomplished professionals and to support the innovative environmental research and educational programs being conducted by UMCES, a recognized leader in environmental management and sustainable economic development.”
As a member of the Board, Peggy will assist UMCES in advancing the science of coastal environments and their watersheds, as well as, provide counsel on matters pertaining to public outreach, development, and policy issues.

Derrick’s 24-year career has propelled her to national prominence in the field of sediment management. She has played a pivotal role in the stewardship of the Chesapeake Bay through her work on behalf of the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore. Throughout her tenure at EA, Peggy has held positions of ever increasing responsibility and was promoted to Vice President in 2014.
Derrick earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Goucher College and Master of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Maryland. She is active in industry associations and professional societies including the American Association of Port Authorities, Western Dredging Association, the National Association of Environmental Professionals, the Society of Ecotoxicology and Chemistry, and the Sediment Management Work Group.
