CAMBRIDGE, MD (August 25, 2016)—The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, a leading research and educational institute dedicated to understanding and managing our natural resources, recently appointed Joe Suarez, Executive Advisor with Community Partnerships for Booz Allen Hamilton, to its Board of Visitors.

At Booz Allen Hamilton, a leading provider of management, engineering and technology consulting services to the U.S. government in defense, intelligence, and civil markets, Suarez has helped to oversee community engagement activities, including the development of nonprofit partnerships, the creation of high-impact community programs, and the administration of philanthropic gifts, pro bono, and volunteer support to nonprofit organizations.
Prior to joining Booz Allen, Suarez was Deputy Director of Development/ Operations and Director of The National Air and Space Society and The National Aviation and Space Exploration Wall of Honor at the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution. Under his leadership, multi-million dollar and broad base gifts from corporations, foundations, and individuals were raised and partnerships crafted that enhanced corporate donors’ brand, while elevating the brand and value of the Museum and its collections.
With over 30 years of hands-on experience, including 18 years as President/Managing Partner of Advanced Marketing Group providing strategic planning, fundraising and marketing consulting services to non-profit organizations, and six years as Director of the American Red Cross, Suarez has played an impactful leadership role in helping nonprofit organizations envision and implement high impact programs and innovative partnerships.
He spent many summers with his grandfather on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, working as a commercial waterman on the Miles River crabbing, fishing and oystering. He is very familiar with the challenges facing the Chesapeake Bay and the value it brings to Maryland’s economy and quality of life.
He earned a BA in government and politics from University of Maryland College Park and attended the Commandant’s National Security Program at the U.S. Army War College where each year a group of citizens is selected to participate.
