Professor Rose Jagus of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) has been awarded the Wilson H. Elkins Professorship by the University System of Maryland for her contributions to increasing the diversity of scientists working in the marine sciences.

Chesapeake Biological Laboratory scientist pens children's book on leatherback turtles

Helen Bailey, an associate research professor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science’s Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, partnered with her long-term turtle research collaborator, George Shillinger, then executive director of the non-profit conservation group The Leatherback Trust to write a children’s book titled “The Grande Turtle Adventure.”

Help scientists track dolphins in Chesapeake Bay

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science invites everyone who spends time on or near the Chesapeake Bay to report dolphin sightings with a new online tracking system. Chesapeake DolphinWatch allows users to mark the location of their dolphin sightings on a map of the Chesapeake and its tributaries so scientists can better understand where the dolphins are and where they go.
