April 15, 2010

Cambridge, Md. (April 15, 2010) – Throughout the summer, the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Horn Point Laboratory will again offer one-week education programs for students. The Kids’ Bay Adventures Program consists of six one-week sessions on different environmental topics from June 28 through August 5. Children are given the opportunity to have fun in the outdoors, while learning about science in their own backyard. Craft projects, games, and other activities are included as part of the educational experience.

kids in canoeNew this year is a program designed for young children entering pre-kindergarten in the fall.  A Sense of Wonder, based on the book by Rachel Carson, will provide developmentally appropriate activities for budding naturalists. Children will have the opportunity to guide their parents, hand in hand through some of their most exciting experiences at the end of the session to reconnect adults with their own inner child.

Eco-Art and Music, first offered in 2009, has been renamed, Down to Earth Fine Arts ~ Creative Ecology, and is designed for fifth through eighth graders. Students will combine music, art, and drama to share their creative talents using the outdoor classroom as their inspiration. An art exhibit and creative presentation will be open to all of the Kids’ Bay Adventures families at the end of the week.

Canoe and Outdoor Adventures will also be available to this age group.

Programs for kindergarten through fourth grade students include Exploring Nature, Choptank Discoveries, Wetland Wonders, and Junior Naturalist.
