Chesapeake Biological Laboratory
Bio
Kirsten began working at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in 2017 as a volunteer for Chesapeake DolphinWatch citizen science project. Soon after her start as a volunteer she moved onto working on projects studying the acoustic sounds of bottlenose dolphins offshore Ocean City, MD and in the Chesapeake Bay. Currently, Kirsten contributes to the Tailwinds team researching baleen whales offshore Ocean City, MD in the Maryland Wind Energy Area (WEA). With the use of the Real-time Whale Buoy (RTWB) Kirsten is able to identify baleen whale species: humpback, fin, sei and the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale presence by the species specific sounds they make.
